Cliche Across The Hudson

Posted by Charles Thomson (Cheltenham, United Kingdom) on 19 June 2009 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

In stark contrast to yesterday's image of the untouched rural landscape of England, this is a night shot of the most well recognised example of urbanisation on the planet.

This is another one I took during my trip last summer to the US, we were staying with a friend in Jersey City, which of course has these fabulous views over the river.

Determined to come away with a night shot across the river, I excused myself one evening and snuck away with my camera to find a suitably unobstructed viewpoint from which to take my picture. This involved walking for ages along the coast path until I found a clearing, and even then getting the shot wasn't easy as I don't own a tripod.

With a bit of improvisation I managed to balance the camera in my shoe on top of a bollard for long enough to get this exposure. I nearly ended up walking back to the apartment with no camera and only one shoe...
